Year 1- Squirrels

Welcome to Squirrels!

Here you will find everything you need to know about Year 1. You can find information about what we are learning this year and have a look at some previous learning over the past few years. 

We are going to have an amazing time this year, filled with lots of fun and learning! 

Our class TAs are Mrs Jones and Mrs Kearton.

We have Forest School on Wednesday afternoon and PE on Tuesday afternoon.

Term 3

This term our learning experiences are: 

Head, shoulders, knees and toes. 

In this science-based experience we will be learning all about the human body and the way that it functions. For our hook we will be taking part in a fitness class which will be run by a qualified fitness instructor. For our outcome, we will deliver our own fitness class to the children in Year R.

Mastermind UK 

In this geography-based experience we will be learning about the geographical locations of the parts of the UK. We will focus on capital cities, famous landmarks, rivers and surrounding seas. For our hook we will be watching an episode of Mastermind and taking part in a mini-quiz. For our outcome, we will be competing in a Mastermind style quiz against the other schools within the Inspire Federation. 

Maths

In maths this term we will be focussing on: 

  • 3D and 2D shapes
  • Addition and subtraction strategies within 10. 

PE - This term our PE focus is gymnastics. We will be basing our learning on tuck, jump and roll in order to perform movements using the springboard. 

RE - In RE we are focusing on 'Creation'. Our big question is 'Who Christians believe created the world?'.

Wellbeing - This term's wellbeing focus is focused on understanding feelings. Focusing on the alibility to describe a wider range of feelings and what children can do if they feel them.
