Term 3 - Open wide, what's inside?

How can I improve my oral health?

Our hook for this learning experience were some interesting - and funny - videos brushing our teeth, shared by our parents on Tapestry.

We learnt that 'good oral health' means that we have a healthy mouth and teeth, and the way to achieve that is brushing our teeth.

Some children decided to create some pictures of the germs that live on our mouths.

To understand the importance of brushing our teeth and the consequences of a bad oral hygiene, we did 'the egg experiment', representing our teeth. We put one egg on cola and another one on vinegar and left them soaking overnight. It was ease to clean the cola one with a toothbrush and some toothpaste, but the one that had been in vinegar lost all the shell!

We also spoke about the importance of the equipment when brushing our teeth: use appropriately the toothbrush and toothpaste. We learnt that we have to brush our teeth for at least 2 minutes, using circular movements and twice a day - in the morning and nighttime.

And we practised, of course!

Using our term thinking tool - pictorial planning - and as an outcome for our learning, we crated a pictorial instruction chart on how to brush our teeth.
