L.O. To solve one step word problems (applying) SC1: I can identify the operation. SC2: I can write the calculation. SC3: I can solve the problem.
Please watch today’s video tutorial:
Task 1 at 1:27: identify which operation to use and represent the problem in a bar model for this question:
Jason starts with 49 crayons. James removes 42 of them. How many crayons does Jason have now?
Task 2 at 2:57: solve 49-42
Task 3 at 4:37: identify which operation to use and represent the problem in a bar model for this question:
If there are 7 marbles in a box and Gregory puts 73 more marbles in the box. How many marbles are in the box?
Task 4 at 5:32: solve 73+7
Task 5 at the end of the video: play the board game which is on the class page as shown in the video. If you don’t have a die, you can use the spinner. Each time you land on a Q, you need to solve a word problem from the problems on the class page. Choose challenge 1, 2 or 3 for this. Challenge 1: one step problems with fewer words and simpler calculations. Challenge 2: one step problems with similar language and calculations in the video. Challenge 3: create your own word problems and try to make these as challenging as possible. If your partner agrees that you have solved the problem correctly, move forward an extra 2 spaces. If you have got it wrong, work out where you went wrong – if you can do this, move forward an extra 1 space.
