All About Us!

This experience is all about us! We are going to use our learning to create a brilliant Year 1 yearbook to keep. First, we are going to ask our grown ups at home what we used to like when we were little. To do this we will need to learn about asking questions. Next, we are going to learn about writing words with the suffixes 'ing' and 'ed', along with writing in the past and present tense.  We will use this learning to write about ourselves, thinking about what we used to like and what we like now. We will also need to take some fantastic portrait photos to go with our writing.

Learning Objective: To know how to ask questions.

In this lesson we learnt all about questions. We know question words start a question and we must use a question mark at the end of a question. We also practised how to ask our friends questions, by using eye contact and good listening.

Learning Objective: To know how to use the suffix 'ing'.

We gave our partner root words, such as shake and they had to tell us the word with the suffix 'ing' added. Such as, shake - shaking

Jump - jumping

Hop - hopping

Alice's fantastic learning about the suffix 'ing':

Then, we learnt about the suffix 'ed' and how we can add this to words to change their meaning. We played 'ed' bingo.

Lydia's fantastic learning:

Next, we learnt about writing in the past and present tense. We worked collaboratively to write in the past and present tense, using suffixes.

We then used our knowledge of suffixes and tenses to write about what we used to like and what we like now.

Next we learnt about ambition. Using what we knew about being ambitious, we thought about the goals we wanted to set for ourselves when we grew up.

Learning how to take portrait pictures of each other.

They turned out well!
