Friday 12th February 2021

Happy Friday everyone! You've made it to the last day of a very unusual and challenging term. As you know, you were asked to produce motivational posters to inspire your friends and peers. We have collated all of the posters we received from the children across the federation and created the video below. We hope you enjoy it and that it makes you smile.

Have a great half term everybody, and a well-deserved rest!

Maths

LO: To be able to use m knowledge of area and perimeter
SC1: I can identify how to find the area
SC2: I can identify how to find the perimeter
SC3: I can understand the difference between the two

For this lesson, there are two different tasks available. One is to practise and further develop your understanding of area and perimeter. The other is using your knowledge of perimeter and area to answer reasoning questions.

Which you do is up to you and how to feel about area and perimeter.

If you would like a little more help with area and perimeter and feel you need a bit more time practising how to identify and calculate them, then have a look at this video and answer the chilli challenges below labelled area and perimeter 1 and 2

Things to remember

Area = width x length

Perimeter = around the outside of the shape. Add all of the sides together.

Step 1 - Draw out your shape

Step 2 - label the sides you have on your shape

Step 3 - Fill in the missing sides with your knowledge of shape
If it a square, all the sides are the same size
If it a rectangle opposite sides are equal

Step 4 - Work out the perimeter by adding up all of the sides.

Step 5 - Work out the area by multiplying the length by the width.

If you think you already understand area and perimeter really well then have a look at this video and answer the reasoning questions below labelled reasoning 1 and 2
