Seal Church Of England Primary School

Friday 15th May

Good morning!

It’s outcome day! Throughout the week, we have been participating in learning which has helped us to get to our outcome. We were aspiring, persevering, reflective learners. To make sure you know which lessons are linked to our weekly challenge, we will mark the lesson with a and AYOC to show it is part of The year of change activities.

Please send us your work from the previous learning if you haven’t done so already. Have a good day!

Time

Learning

9-9:30

Wake up Shake up – please use this time to exercise.

There are lots of different options, here are a few you could choose from:

You could use this time to take a walk/bike ride as your daily exercise.

9:30-10:00

Phonics

Your child should start their phonics session by watching a video which introduces a new sound. The video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ?fbclid=IwAR2zPh6YahiI_fOxLD_ikMQES-EWj_l_6L8MYTCYYUYMBv-1DePkw5_7--E.

If the link doesn't work try clicking on this link https://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/find-out-more/help-during-school-closure/ and then click on either the YouTube link or the Facebook link on the first line.

The videos are only streamed at certain times of the day and are set depending. The times are:

  • Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30am

  • Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00am

  • Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30am

(It may be better to do mental maths and problem solving first and come back to phonics, if your video is at a later time)

In terms of the reading section of the phonics lesson, Oxford Owl are making all the phonics books available online as ebooks. Here is the link https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/read-write-inc-phonics-guide/

Once you’ve clicked on the link then click on ebooks and then you need to register but it is completely free. Once registered you can then open all the ebooks and choose the correct banded level for your child.

This means you do not need to look at the RWI books on the school website and we will not be adding any further books there.

Guided reading:

If your child is not in a phonics group and instead does guided reading, please find newly uploaded texts on the Butterflies home learning page here: https://www.sealprimary.com/page/?title=Home+Learning&pid=470, please find today’s timetable and the text will be there.

Science AYOCchallenge

LO: to plant my seed/bean/scrap.

SC1: I can explain what a plant needs to grow.

SC2: I understand that plants can grow from scraps.

SC3: I can find a suitable area to grow a plant.

Today is the day that we are going to plant our plants. Can you tell an adult what plants need to grow and survive? Could you remember them all? Well done if you did!

First, we need to think about what we are going to plant. Often, we plant seeds, bulbs or beans. But we can also plant scraps that you might have in your kitchen. Have a look here for some ideas: https://www.diyncrafts.com/4732/repurpose/25-foods-can-re-grow-kitchen-scraps. You might need an adult to help you with this.

Once you have decided what you are going to plant, we need to find the best place to plant your plant. Think about what plants need to grow. Would it be a good idea to plant your plant in the dark? It needs to be the best place you can find, where it will grow the best!

When you know what you are planting and where you are going to plant it, now you can watch the video on how to plant your seed or scrap then have a go yourself!

English

LO: to write a diary entry

SC1: I can recall the features of a diary.

SC2: I can write in first person.

SC3: I can write in chronological order.

Before lunch we planted our plants. We thought about what we were going to plant and where the best place would be to plant it. Now it is our chance to write our first diary entry about our plant.

There is a PDF plant diary attached below if you would like to use this.

You need to start your first diary entry by explaining what you’ve planted and where you’ve planted it. Why did you choose to plant your plant in the place you did? Did you use any tools? What did you have to do with the soil?

Next, you need to write about how you are going to look after your plant. What does it need to grow and survive?

Then, each week you need to write a diary entry about how your plant is doing. When growing plants, we need to have lots of patience, to wait for the plant to grow. We also need to remember to look after our plant. Each week you will check your plant to see how it is doing and if it looks any different.

Challenge: when your plant starts to grow, measure it to see how tall it’s getting and record this in your diary.

2:00- 2:30

Reflective journal

We have now done our planting and so need to reflect. We need to think about what we have learnt. We are going to create a mind map to record all the exciting things that we have learnt this week.

Watch this video to help you start.
