Maths – Multiplication

To help you complete your maths tasks you will need some paper, a pencil, ruler and if you are not confident with multiplication you can print out a copy of the multiplication square (found as an attachment on the maths page).

Lesson 2 - Creating Arrays – Multiples of 10

Yesterday, we created arrays to help solve multiplication problems. Today, we are using our knowledge of multiplication (remember you can use the multiplication square to help) and arrays to help us solve number problems which involve multiples of 10.

After watching the video you need to consider the relationship between solving problems such as:

4 x 2 = 8 and

40 x 2 = 80

How does your existing knowledge of times tables help you solve problems such as 40 x 2 =?

When drawing your arrays you can label the counters with 1s or 10s to help you.

Draw arrays to help solve the following problems and then answer the final question, giving examples to support your ideas:

1)      3 x 5 =

         30 x 5 =

2)      6 x 4 =

         60 x 4 =

3)      7 x 2 =

         70 x 2 =

4)      3 x 8 =

         30 x 8 =

5)      4 x 3 =

         40 x 3 =

What happened when you multiplied by a multiple of 10? How was the answer different from when you first solved the problem? For example, why was the answer to 3 x 5 = different to the answer to 30 x 5 =?

Answers will be published at 6pm for you to self mark. Please see below for answers.

Break/Snack Time

English – Information text and planning your text. Watch the video below for information about the tasks to be completed.

Task 1 is to tell your adults at home what each of the features of an information text is.

Task 2 is to find an information text online or in our home and identify these features. This is a recap.

Task 3 is the main task. We would like you to start planning your information text to be written next week. For today we would just like you to plan the writing – what information you are going to put in.

English – We would like to give you this time to continue with your English planning from before lunch.
