LO: To be able to know the features needed to write persuasively (KNOW)

SC1: I can identify exaggerated adjectives.

SC2: I can use exaggerated adjectives to describe my own item.

SC3: I can make language choices which appeal to the target audience.

Today, we look at the language choices used to make a product appeal to the customer. We will look at appealing promises and exaggerated language choices as I model using these. You will then apply these skills to make a special Viking book appeal to your own target audience. You will reflect on the promises you have made, and your language choices and why these appeal to the Vikings you have encountered in the story so far.

My tutorial for the lesson is below. The PowerPoint will tell you when to watch it.

By the end of the lesson you should’ve:

Described your book using exaggerated adjectives,

Developed your descriptions into promises that appeal to the Vikings from the story and

Reflected on your language choices.

Guided Reading

There are 2 options for guided reading.

You can read a section from our new book and answer the questions that I will post below. I have recorded a video of me reading the text and asking the questions but please only use this if you are unable to read the text independently.

If you find the task above too challenging, I have found some books to read. Have a look through, if you would like help with a level or a book to read a day then please email me and I will help.

Guided Reading

LO: To be able to understand how to retrieve key information.

SC1: I can scan the text to find information.

SC2: I can skim-read.

SC3: I can retrieve relevant information from a text.

1. Describe the current climate in Berk.

2. What made Fishlegs’ dragon similar to a cow?

3. What was Hiccup’s dragon capable of doing in this section of the story?

4. What was Fishlegs’ dragon capable of doing at this point in the story?

11:30 – 12:30

LO: To be able to show my understanding of division
SC1: I can identify what division is
SC2: I can understand how to use formal written methods
SC3: I can understand how to interpret a word problem

For this lesson, we are taking what we have learned within division and moving it into word problems. Today we are only focussing on division, so you know what is coming, which does make it easier. However, it will get harder next week.

I have included a video of me modelling a couple of examples. Have a look at how I expect it to be worked out. I have also included a worked example to help you.

Dear Year 4,

Please take a look at the following statements below.

Please read through each statement and answer either yes or no. You don't have to write your answers down in your note book.

Discuss your answers with your parents or carers and consider if you are an active listener or not.

I hope you enjoy the exercise.

Warm Regards

Mrs Brocker
