Butterflies and Dragonflies

Friday 22nd May

In order to keep up with our time telling skills, whenever you see “WHAT’S THE TIME MR WOLF?” on the timetable, you should stop and tell the time. Record it in your journal so that we can see how you are getting on – parents if you could write a comment to let us know how accurate they were, this would be very helpful.

9:00 – 9:30

Please go to: the 5 times table and then select ‘divide by (inverse). Click generate.

Either print this out and complete it or if you don’t have a printer, write out the answers in your journal – don’t worry about writing the questions. This will take too long. Ask a parent to time you for 3 minutes to see how many you can get in 3 minutes.

For an extra challenge, please select times by as well as division facts.

L.O. To interpret and construct block diagrams (applying)

SC1: I can read data in a block diagram.

SC2: I can answer questions based on the data.

SC3: I can construct my own block diagram including the main features.

Read through the powerpoint on block diagrams which you will find on the class page.

Now complete a challenge on the class page. Challenge 3 is the most challenging.

Now use the data you have been collecting on how many types of fruit and veg you have been eating over the last few days to create your own block diagram.

Think about:

·       What will my title be to present this information

·       What will go on my x axis (horizontal)

·       What will go on my y axis (verticle)

·       What should my lowest number be?

·       What should my highest number be?

·       What number should I count up in on the axis? (1s, 2s, 5s, 10s?)

·       Put in your data using blocks and lots of colour

LO: To be able to write instructions (applying)

SC1: I can use imperative verbs

SC2: I can write in the present tense

SC3: I can use time connectives

SC4: I can write using simple language

We have reached the time in the week when we now need to complete our outcome. You should now know what meal you are going to create so it is time to make your meal and write your instructions as you go.

Make sure when you write your instructions you use imperative verbs, you write in the present tense, you use time connectives and that you write in simple language so that your instructions are easy to follow. Also you need to make sure your instructions are numbered for each step.

Watch this video for inspiration (of course you might notice that his meal is not healthy!)

Please send a picture of your instructions, answers to the self-assessment questions and a picture of the meal you have created to your class teacher. We can’t wait to post them all on the class website.

Self-assessment questions:

1.      Did you use imperative verbs in your instructions?

2.      Have you written consistently in the present tense?

3.      Have you used time connectives?

4.      Have you used simple language?
