Ask a parent to time you for 3 minutes. See how many questions you can get right in 3 minutes. If you haven’t got a printer, don’t spend time writing each question out – it will take too long. Just write the answers in your journal.

Here is the list of the words that we have learnt this week. Ask someone to read them out to you whilst you write them down. Mark them afterwards. How did you do? Re-write any words that you didn’t get correct.

RWI Phonics

Oxford Owl have made available for parents all the ebooks linked to each RWI level. This means we no longer need to upload the books to the webpage. Instead, please go to the webpage below. If you go onto ‘ebooks’ then you will need to register (this is free of charge) and then you will be able to access all the ebooks and choose the correct banded level for your child. Please note that the RWI phonics scheme is based on lots of repetition. Therefore, we usually read the same book about 3 or 4 times before moving onto a new book. For some children they may need to read it more than this to ensure they are completely fluent in reading the book (no sounding out).


A general guide is:

1st read – decoding all the words – sound out as much as you need to.

2nd read – read for fluency (try to read with more fluency and expression).

3rd read – read with fluency, expression and comprehension. Try answering the comprehension questions at the back.


This website also provides lots of other information for parents about phonics. It has other resources on here too should you wish to explore!

·       For every phonics session, please continue to watch the speed sounds lesson on the Ruth Miskin Youtube channel. Then read a book from the webpage detailed above.


Timings for the speeds sounds lessons are:


Set 1 lesson is at 9:30am or 12:30pm (red, green & purple groups)

Set 2 lesson is at 10:00am or 1:00pm (pink, orange and yellow groups)

Set 3 lesson is at 10:30am or 1:30pm (blue and grey groups)


If you are unsure which group your child should be in, please contact your child’s class teacher.

L.O. To identify the properties of 2D shapes

SC1: I can state the number of sides and vertices

SC2: I can state whether it has lines of symmetry

SC3: I can state whether or not it is a quadrilateral.


Now that you have learnt about sides, vertices, symmetry and the names of shapes, you are ready to start identifying these features as properties of the shape. A property is a characteristic of something, it describes what the shape has.


For example, I could say that the properties of an equilateral triangle are:

-          It has 3 sides

-          It has three vertices

-          It has 3 lines of symmetry


Task: create top trump cards in order to identify the properties of different 2D shapes. Things you must include on your card: sides, vertices, lines of symmetry, quadrilateral? (remember a quadrilateral is a 4-sided shape!) Then you can make up your own things to include. I put in “cool factor” and made up a number based on how cool I think this shape is and “are there other types of me?” I then put “Yes” because there are different types of triangles. I also created a character description for my shape J


Once you have created the cards, you could play a game of Top Trumps with your family. See below for the rules.


Shapes to do cards for: circle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezium, oval, pentagon, hexagon, octagon.

Please use the shape mat on the class page if you need help remembering what these shapes (in their regular form) look like.

You are welcome to create more cards of other 2D shapes if you would like to but please create the above ones to begin with.

Top Trumps How to Play:

(You could play this as a family over the weekend)


To start the game, shuffle and deal all the cards face down. Each player holds their cards so that they can see the top card only.

The player to the dealer’s left starts by reading out a category from the top card (e.g. vertices, 4) The other players then read out the same category from their cards. The one with the best or highest value wins, and that player collects all the top cards, including their own, and moves them to the bottom of their pile. It is then their turn again to choose a category from the next card.

If two or more cards share the top value or data is not available for that particular subject then all the cards are placed in the middle and the same player chooses again from the next card. The winner of the hand takes the cards in the middle as well.

For Yes or No questions, ‘Yes’ is determined the best value so “Yes” would win over “No.” If two or more people had the same answer, see above for what to do.

The person with all the cards at the end is the winner.

TASC Wheel: Let’s do it!


Now that you have finished your script and finished your puppets it is time to practise and record your puppet shows!


Task 1 – Rehearse your script. It is really important to rehearse your script as much as possible so that your show is the best is can be.


This is your chance to use your puppets and use your script to make your show brilliant.


You need to speak using a clear voice – if you don’t then your audience may not be able to hear what you are saying.


Think about adding expression to what your characters are going to say. How would they speak?

When you are rehearsing think about where you should be, should you be seen and where is your puppet show going to be performed.


Task 2 – Once you feel you have rehearsed enough then it is time to video your puppet show! Please send through your puppet shows to your class teacher so they can post the best ones on your class page!

Mrs Hunt and Miss Cuss (our music leaders) have uploaded music videos to our website (curriculum – music). Every Friday afternoon we would like the children to practise the songs.   


    Mrs Hunt will be uploading new ones every now and then. The idea is that when we get back to school, we can have a celebratory singing concert. If your child would like to record themselves singing, please email clips to Mrs Chloe Hunt at: or to Miss Cuss at:  The clips will then be collated into a video.
