Lesson 2 – Decimals – Creating numbers up to 2-decimal places.

LO: To use place value when creating decimal numbers

SC1. I can consider the value of a digit in a decimal number.

SC2. I can use place value to help make decimal numbers.

SC3. I can partition decimal numbers in different ways.

 

Yesterday, we introduced decimals and how to represent them visually on a 100-grid and how decimals have equivalent fractions.

Today, we are going to consider the value of digit in a decimal number and how we can use a place value grid to represent and order different decimal numbers.

I have a PowerPoint and video to talk you through today’s lesson.

Mental Maths Challenge

Each day this week I would like you to challenge yourself to a mental maths test.   If you login to the Topmarks website you will find the Daily 10. You can choose the mental maths task of your choice but you must try the same tasks each day. Your aim is get quicker and get as many questions right as possible. You will find instructions on the website:

Success criteria:

1)      I can perform my puppet show thinking about what my audience can see

2)      I can edit my video, considering what will work best for my audience

3)      I can evaluate how I have done at creating a puppet show

 

Task: To create and edit your puppet show-

You can use the morning for this task and the afternoon if you need it too.

1)      Practise performing your script with your puppets, now is the time to make any changes to your script if you need to.

2)      When you are confident, ask someone to film your puppet show for you.

3)      Watch what you have filmed. What parts work well? Well? What parts if any do you need to change? Why? What else do you need to add to your video? How can you make it the best it can be? (Article 6)

4)      Edit your video- please look at the resources on the website to help you.

Story time

Listen to and enjoy the story ‘The House with Chicken Legs’ by Sophie Anderson. Each day Mrs Wooliscroft and I will take it in turns to read a chapter of the book to you.
