When your child reads can you ask them a few of these questions to help aid their understanding. It is important that they can explain their answers, be able to tell you why they think that. As well as, find it within the text.
Please find an attached list of questions to help aid you during their reading.
For example, if your child is reading a text and you ask a question here is the conversation I would try to have with the children.
Adult: Can you tell me what feeling this character had?
Child: They were feeling upset
Adult: How do you know?
Child: I know this because in the text it says a tear appeared in their eye, this means that they early cried and are upset.
