Maths - Bar Charts:

LO: To understand the use of bar charts

SC1) I can list the features of bar charts

SC2) I can interpret data from a bar chart

SC3) I can display information using a bar chart

Today, we will be starting something different from last week. We will be learning about Statistics and information handling. Please watch the video below:

In the video, it was not mentioned about giving a subheading to the number up the side and the items along the bottom. This is a good idea to do this when creating a bar chart. Please see attachment below of this.

Task 1: As said in the video, please answer a few questions that can be found in the powerpoint attachment below. I have also added this as a PDF for those who are struggling to access the PowerPoint

Task 2: Just like I did, can you pick something in your house for you to create a bar chart? Make sure this is something that can be made into a bar chart e.g. type of lego brick or type of crockery. Collect the information and create a bar chart. Use the checklist below to help you.

A little easier: If you are finding the work difficult, don’t worry about putting the information you collect in a table with tally marks. Just write down the number of each item and use the checklist below to help you make a bar chart.

Numbers up the side

Item you are counting along the bottom

Subheadings for numbers and items

Use a Ruler!
