As we have had a lovely sunny half term rest, this week we will continue to work on words starting ‘ex’ and there will be a test on Friday. Revisit the tutorial from last term to refresh your memory.

Guided Reading

LO: To investigate unfamiliar words

SC1: I can read an unfamiliar text.

SC2: I can find out the meaning of unfamiliar words

SC3: I can apply these into sentences

For this week we are going to be looking at scripts as we are going to create one for our challenge. 

This is a script! I have attached this as a pdf if you would like to download it and view it better. 

I would like you to think about what is here. How does this differ from narrative (stories). 

I have attached another pdf of a script. For this lesson, I would like you to look through both of the scripts and come up with as many features of a script as you can. We are going to use this as our checklist throughout the week to help us when we are writing scripts. 

 

For example:

The name of who is talking comes at the beginning. 

The name is always followed by a colon.

 

If you struggle with this/ you want to see if you managed to find all of the features, then I have attached a video. See if you were correct. I would really like you to try and find some of the features before you watch the video. Give it a go.

For this lesson I would like you to research the land of Egypt. Literally. How did their surroundings affect their way of life? 

For example, 

  • They live in Africa, a very hot continent. How did they cope with living in such hot conditions? 

  • How did they farm the land?

  • What animals would they hunt for food?

  • How did the Nile help them?

  • What dangers did they face from wild animals? 

Can you use your knowledge of non-fiction text to present your findings. Make sure you include:

Pictures and captions
Facts
Bullet points

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!
