Please find the timetable for today's learning below. 

This week in maths we are starting ratio.

In English we are continuing with the Just So Stories and basing our guided reading and writing on them. 

Please send all your work once it is complete so I can send feedback and put some fantastic pieces on our class celebration page. I can't wait to see what you produce this week.

Overview: Over the two weeks we are reading the ‘Just So Stories’ by Rudyard Kipling. The final outcome will be to write your own original story of how an animal got its…in the style of the author. The stories will be made into a Federation eBook so you can all read each other’s stories. 

 

Read The Beginning of Armadillos by Rudyard Kipling or listen to the story being read below.

Answer the following questions:

  1. What advice did the mother give her son the Painted Jaguar about the hedgehog and the tortoise?
  2. Why did the Painted Jaguar get confused about the hedgehog and the tortoise?
  3. How had the hedgehog and the tortoise changed by the end of the story? Why?
  4. What characteristic do you think the Painted Jaguar showed in the story? Use evidence from the text to support your reasoning.

 

Task: To write a letter to the world, using reported speech explaining what has happened in the story-how the armadillos came to be. Choose the character you want to write from (the Painted Jaguar, the Stickly-Prickly Hedgehog or Slow-Solid Tortoise.)

Aim for a page of quality writing. You can type your letter if you prefer.

  2. I can develop an understanding of the development of evolutionary ideas and theories over time
  3. I can understand that adaptation and evolution is not a uniform process for all living things

 

This week we are learning about evolution.

National curriculum science:

  • recognise that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago
  • identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution

 

Today we are learning about how Charles Darwin and Alfred Wallace developed their ideas on evolution.
