I hope you had a good weekend; sunny on Saturday then hail and snow on Sunday. What strange times we’re having!

We’re starting a new book this week, which links to our Ancient Greek learning, and I think you will really enjoy it. I’m also moving us on from division onto measurement with some practical activities to start with.

Do whatever exercise keeps you happy. Let me know what you get up to and remember Jo Wicks will still be doing his PE lessons live if you would prefer to join in with that.



Our new book is The Adventures of Odysseus.

I’d like you to look at the front cover and think of all the questions you might have, and write them in your journal.

Challenge: can you make a prediction about the story?



Measurement, I want you to start by measuring some items you already have at home that you might use for your Easter cake challenge:

 L.O: I can understand units of measure

  1. Mathletics (your login is in your journal) Please do the assigned Mathletics tasks on units of measures.

If you complete Mathletics please:

  1. Find the weight of baking items in your kitchen cupboards (look on the labels) and convert them into different units of measure, list them in your journals. For example plain flour 500g = 0.5kg, baking powder 50g = 0.05kg
  2. Order your items from lightest to heaviest.

Challenge-What is the total weight of the items on your baking list?

Today we are going to be focusing on the design and evaluating part of this challenge. Create a mindmap/collage of Easter cakes that you aspire to make, then think about what you already know and what you will need to find out. The criteria for your designs and creations entries must be:

  • Appealing
  • Innovative
  • Fit for purpose (clearly celebrating Easter)

Task: create a mind map for challenge 2

Please include:

  1. What is the task?

Explain what the task is and the purpose of it.

  1. What do I need to know?

List all the things you will need to know to complete this challenge.

  1. What skills will I use?

List all the skills you will need to be able to complete this challenge.

  1. How can I make sure it is the best designed cake it can be?

Think about how you can make this a quality product.

             Include illustrations/drawings too.

The focus is on aspiration.

Remember to consider your layout and presentation-aim high like you do in your learning journals at school.  I will also be doing this challenge too and keep you posted with photographs etc, don’t forget to send me your photographs of you learning your new skills. See mine below for some ideas, I’m sure you can be even more creative!


I am missing you and want to check in with you and make sure you’re OK, so I’m going to do my best to speak to each of you on the phone this week (provided your adults are ok with this). Do let me know if there’s anything you’re finding difficult and I will do my best.
