Motion and Motive

In this experience, we are focusing on the sculpture work of Alexander Calder. We will be learning about how to manipulate and join wire. We will also learn to draw and cut shapes accurately. Once we have learnt these skills, we will use them together in order to create our own sculptures in the style of Calder.

We learnt about who Calder was and interpreted his sculptures.

Alexander Calder, Double Gong, 1953 ยท SFMOMA

We learnt how to manipulate and join wire.

We learnt how to draw and cut out accurate shapes and thought about which colours would be eye catching.

Mr Jones came in to teach some of us how to manipulate wire using tools.

We planned our sculptures, thinking about the shapes we wanted to use.

Then we put together all we had learnt and created our sculptures.
