There are 2 options for guided reading, you can continue with the book and the questions that I will post below or I have found some books to read if you find this too hard. Have a look through, if you would like help with a level or a book to read a day then please email me and I will help.

Guided Reading

LO: To be able to understand how to use inference

SC1: I can identify what inference is

SC2: I can understand what inference can tell me about a text

SC3: I can justify my inferences

Please read the pages attached below and then answer the questions below. Make sure that you justify your answers using the conjunctions because.


I know this because.. 

This part tells me… because… 


  1. How did the students react to Quirrell sprinting into the hall? How do you know? What in the text tells you? 

  2. What was Ron feeling when he said “Oh all right.” How do you know? 

  3. Can you infer what Harry would be thinking when they were going to get Hermoine? 

  4. What would they have thought when they saw Snape? WHy

  5. Why did the author use the word muttered when Harry was talking about the key? 

  6. Why did the author not tell you whose scream it was? How would this help the story? 

  7. What thoughts would Harry and Ron have when they knew Hermoine was in the toilets? 

  8. What would Hermoine think when she was the Troll came in the bathroom?

SC1: I can understand how to use imagery
SC2: I can identify how to use dialogue
SC3: I can show my understanding of the text

Today I would like you to write the story you read this morning as if you were the troll. 

  • How did it get in the castle? 

  • What did it do when going around the castle? 

  • What would it think then it saw the three children? 

  • What would it think when it was fighting Ron, Harry and Hermine?

LO: To be able to understand how to convert between different units of measure
SC1: I can identify different units of measure
SC2: I can understand the relationship between measurements
SC3: I can identify how to divide and multiply by 10, 100 and, 1000

Today we are going to take what you have learned over the past couple of days and use it in word problems. I have attached some word problems for you to have a go at. These are very similar to the word problems we were looking at last week with addition and subtraction. 

As always I have uploaded a video for you to help with the understanding of the word problems and how best to answer them. 

Fair warning, I made a silly error in the video, who knew it was so hard to add two digits together. I can not wait to be back in school!

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!
