questions but please only use this if you are unable to read the text

independently.

Guided Reading

LO: To be able to understand how to justify inferences.

SC1: I can identify what inference is.

SC2: I can make inferences based on the information I have read.

SC3: I can justify my inferences with evidence from the text.

  1. Why did Hiccup take the blame for waking up the dragons? What evidence can you find to support your ideas?

  2. How do you think the other boys felt when Hiccup took the blame? What makes you think this?

  3. Identify three things which have happened to make Fishlegs hate being a Viking.

  4. Do you think Hiccup feels the same as Fishlegs or differently? Why do you think this?

English

LO: To be able to use appropriate vocabulary to add description. (SHOW)

SC1: I can effectively describe appearance.

SC2: I can effectively describe actions.

SC3: I can use dialogue to describe a character. 

Today, we will begin to plan our character description. Our plan will focus on the

key areas of a character description, which we identified last week. We will also

revisit our plan at the end of the lesson to ensure it contains the imagery

devices we have used throughout the learning process, ensuring the description

is interesting to the reader. 

Use the powerpoint below to work through the planning process. To access the

audio clips, you will need to view the powerpoint as a presentation and click the

audio image when you see it. 

This is the tutorial for the lesson. The presentation will tell you when

to watch the video.

For today’s lesson, we are going to be looking again at the expanded method.

We have looked at this previously, but again we are using harder questions to

challenge yourself with.

For this lesson, we are going to be answering one simple question. 

Why were the Vikings such successful raiders? 

Through the research you have already done you have plenty of information to

answer this question. However, if you would like to do some more I have

Have a look at the video I have uploaded, it does ask you to pause at one point

and look back at your research so please do. 

This is a reflection lesson, you are going to be looking back at the research you

have already done, to answer the question. I have given you some pointers

within the video to help you if you need it. 

If you are really stuck, play through the video and then go back through your

research and see if you can find more than I have.
