For an introduction to the concept, look at the video below. There are chilli challenges attached below.

LO: To be able to conduct an experiment.
SC1: I can identify what a plant needs to survive
SC2: I can understand how plants get their nutrients
SC3: I can write up my experiment properly

For this lesson we are going to conduct an experiment using plants. We are going to learn about how plants get their nutrients and specifically their water. We will then use this information to conduct an investigation on a plant we find in our garden.

To begin with I would like you to watch these videos explaining the knowledge we need.

Before we watch the next video we are going to set up an experiment. As you may remember from our experiments during the year we are going to have the following sub-headings.

Title
Hypothesis
Apparatus
Method
Results
Conclusion

For this I have uploaded a video of me conducting the experiment. I will also give you the title of the experiment in the video and introduce it. All of the rest of the sub headings you will be doing yourself. Some of the sub headings you will not be able to do today. You will need time to be able to see the results and draw your conclusion from them.

Title - An experiment to show how plants move nutrients and water
Hypothesis - The hypothesis is where you predict what you think will happen
Apparatus - The apparatus is where you explain what you have used to conduct the experiment.
Method - The method is where you tell the reader step by step how to do the experiment. It is a good rule that if a stranger was to pick up your method they should be able to do the experiment exactly from your description.
Results - This we will do in a couple of days
Conclusion - This we will do in a couple of days

Please watch the video which relates to the experiment we have just done. Hopefully it will help you understand the science behind what we have shown.

2:00- 2:30

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!

2:30-3:15

We are continuing on with our class reader in the afternoons. I have attached the pdf of the book as well as the link to hear Mr Forster read.

After, I would like you to spend time reading your own book. Do it in your bedroom, in the garden or even in the kitchen sink. So long as you are reading.
