SC3. I can apply my knowledge to a text.

Yesterday, we began to consider how to convey information more concisely. We focussed specifically on expanded noun phrases. Today, we will look at a longer piece of text and I would like you to identify and then consider how to improve that piece of text, using precise vocabulary.

To help you with today’s lesson, I have put together two videos and a short PowerPoint.

Task One

Watch today’s videos which show how to identify and then edit and improve the expanded noun phrases in a longer piece of text.

If you need additional support, please watch today’s video which will help you edit and rewrite existing expanded noun phrases.

Task Two

Go through today’s PowerPoint which will remind you about creating precise expanded noun phrases. There is also a paragraph at the end of the PowerPoint for you to edit and improve (I have attached a separate copy to the class page for you to print if you wish).

Task Three – Challenge

Once you have finished editing and improving the existing text, I would like you write a paragraph which explains in detail why you have made the different vocabulary choices in your writing. Do not simply state that it is more interesting. Give precise reasons for your choices.
