Joe Wicks is no longer running on a Tuesday but you can go back and do one of your favourites from his other workouts. Or alternatively you could have a look at other exercise options e.g. cosmic Yoga, Just Dance, Zumba, Les Mills for kids etc. 

Get yourself moving and exercising as it will set you up for a great day of learning!! 

9:30 – 9:50 

Today your guided reading questions are based on comprehension. These will focus on the different skills we use in reading including retrieval, summarising, inference, questioning and prediction. Make sure you use the text to support your answers where necessary.  

9:50-10:30 

LO: to use effective strategies to calculate the perimeter of squares. 

I can find the perimeter of a square by multiplying the length of one side by four. 

I can substitute numbers for letters to represent the length of a side of a square. 

I can use the formula p = 4 × a to calculate the perimeter of a square. 

 

 

 

Order the Shapes: Have a go at ordering the scaled diagrams of squares and rectangles shown on the Lesson Presentation by size of their perimeter. Check your answers with those on the slide. 

Using a Formula to Calculate the Perimeter of Squares: Look at the lesson presentation and my video to find out how to calculate the perimeter of squares by multiplying the length of one side by four. Calculate the perimeter of squares where the length of one side is given by multiplying the length of one side by four. In maths, letters can be used for numbers that we don’t know yet. We can use this formula for calculating the perimeter of a square: 

p = 4 × a, where a = the length of a side.  

Use the formula p = 4 × a to calculate the perimeter of a square. 

Calculating the Perimeter of Squares: Choose your challenge. 1 star is the easiest and 3 star is the hardest. If you choose a challenge and it is too hard, don’t finish it, swap to an easier one. Similarly, if you choose one that is too easy, swap to a harder one. Think about which star challenge I normally give you at school.

Calculate the Length of the Sides: Children use the inverse to find the length of one side of a square where they know the perimeter. Use the Lesson Presentation to introduce another formula: a = p ÷ 4, where a = the length of a side and p = perimeter.  

Extension: Design it: design a poster to explain how to use a formula to calculate the perimeter of a square. Set questions for other children to calculate the perimeter of squares. This is all about using your mathematical language to explain how to use a formula to find the perimeter.

Generate – how many ideas can you think of? 

LO: To generate ideas for world leaders to write a non-chronological report about

 

 

 

Our generation of ideas will take on a slightly different format to normal. Usually we generate our ideas once we have researched and developed our knowledge on a subject. However, because we are looking at world leaders to write about, we will need to use our researching skills to identify as many as possible before we choose one to create our report about. You can use books or the internet but remember our searching skills when working online. We must be careful about what we type in and ensure that our sources are factually correct. 

When you create your list of leaders, make sure you write some key details about them but not everything you can find. It would also be useful to include a picture of the leader too. 

Use an interesting way to display all the possibilities you have for a world leader to study. Make sure you think carefully about your presentation and making it look colourful and eye catching.  

 

11:45- 12:15

Make sure you do at least one sound check and one studio session. Try to get as many right as you can in the fastest time possible. Remember you want to be aiming for less than 6 seconds to answer a question correctly.

Due to the number of world leaders and creating your page with this information, I want you to use this time to continue to generate your ideas.  

As I said earlier, make sure you have their name, where they were from, the time period they were alive or were in charge from and what big decision they made. Remember this is just key facts to help you when you come to the ‘decide’ phase. It is not the level of research you will so for creating your final report.

2:30-3:00 

Decide – Which idea is the best 

LO: to choose the world leader I want to create a report about 

 

 

 Now that you have thought about all your possible options you need to choose the one you are actually going to do. You need to explain why you have chosen this world leader and what you are going to include in your report. This should not be a long piece of writing. Keep it short and to the point. Save your writing skills for creating your report.
