I hope you are doing well. 

I'm so impressed with your understanding of algebra and also your writing based on The Giant's Necklace. Let me know what you think of the ending of The Giant's Necklace if you haven't already. 

 

Please see below for today's learning, tutorials, resources and the end of day story. 

 

Please send me your work once you have completed it. On Wednesdays we have staff zoom meetings 3:30- 5pm, so any work sent today after 3:30pm will be answered after 5pm. Thank you.

Maths

L.O: I can use my knowledge of algebra to solve equations (show: applying)

Success criteria:

  1. I can remove numbers from one side of the equation
  2. I can do the same to both sides of the equation so it is balanced
  3. I can find the missing value

 

Today we are going to consolidate our understanding of solving equations.

Tasks:

  1. Watch the tutorial on solving equations-a review
  2. Do challenge 1 (a or b) or challenge 2-challenge 2 is harder

 

Top tips:

  1. Remove the numbers from one side by doing the inverse
  2. Do the same to the other side
  3. Show each stage of what you did

Guided reading questions based on the whole of The Giant’s Necklace by Michael Morpurgo

  • Which character in The Giant’s Necklace interests you most? Give evidence from the text to support your arguments.
  • Do you think Michael Morpurgo should have killed his main character? Explain and justify your answer.
  • Why do you think Michael Morpurgo chose the name 'The Giant’s Necklace' for the title of the book? What title would you have given this story instead?

Tasks: Today we are going to turn the newsworthy events in The Giant’s Necklace into a newspaper article.
