Maths –Division

Lesson One – Division – Wednesday 13th May

LO: To be able to explain grouping and sharing.

SC1. I can discuss what sharing is.

SC2. I can discuss what grouping is.

SC2. I can model using sharing and grouping

Over the last few weeks we have been using our knowledge of times tables to help solve 2-digit multiplication problems. Today, we are going to begin to learn about division.

Division is the opposite or inverse of multiplication. When we divide a number becomes smaller which is the opposite effect we see when me multiply a number.

There are many examples in life when we may need to divide. A good example would be where there are 10 sweets and 2 children and we need to divide the sweets fairly and equally between the 2 children.

Can you think of any other times where you or your parents may need to divide?

Today, I have put together a video and a PowerPoint for you to use when learning about sharing and grouping.

There are questions and answers on today's PowerPoint for you to complete.

English - Plan your report

LO: To create a plan for a piece of work

SC1) I can recall report features and what they mean

SC2) I can generate ideas for writing my report

SC3) I can decide which idea I am going to use for my report

Today we are going to be planning what our report looks like and what each section will include. We would like you to think about your aim, apparatus and method. What is the aim of what you are doing? What apparatus could you use? What method are you going to use?

Below is an example of how I have put my thoughts onto a ‘piece of paper’. I have taken each question above and thought of ideas for each. I have then circled the one I would like to use in my report. For the method section, I have written down ideas of what I could do and tomorrow I will write this out fully in sentences. Today we are only planning. Tomorrow we will be writing out the report in neat.

Experience - Requirements for growth

LO: To understand what a plant needs in order to grow

SC1) I can take notes while watching a video

SC2) I can name the different things a plant needs in order to grow

SC3) I can record my findings as a poster

Today we are going to be look at what plants need in order to grow. We would like you to watch the video below about what plants need for them to grow.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zy66fg8/articles/z98jpbk

During the video, you will need to take notes of the key points of what a plan need in order to grow. If this is too difficult, watch the video a few times and discuss with an adult. After this, your final task is to create a poster of the things a plan needs in order to grow. You could also have a think about why the plant needs these things and include them in your poster. See my example below of the sort layout you could use in your poster. My poster does not have information, but I am looking forward to your posters which will be full of information!
