Today your guided reading questions are based on comprehension. These will focus on the different skills we use in reading including retrieval, summarising, inference, questioning and prediction. Make sure you use the text to support your answers where necessary.

LO: to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle. SC1: I can use letters to represent the length and width of a rectangle. SC2: I can use the formula perimeter = 2 × (l + w) to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle.
Perimeter and Squares: Building on yesterday’s learning we are now thinking about using a formula to find the perimeter of a rectangle. We can use perimeter = 4 × a to calculate the perimeter of a variety of squares shown on the Lesson Presentation. Using a Formula to Calculate the Perimeter of Rectangles: As we discovered yesterday, in maths, letters can be used for numbers that we don’t know yet. The formula for calculating the perimeter of a rectangle is: perimeter = 2 × (l + w), where l = the length of the rectangle and w = the width of the rectangle. We always do the calculation inside the brackets first, before multiplying by two. Have a go yourself and use the formula perimeter = 2 × (l + w) to calculate the perimeter of a variety of rectangles. The Lesson Presentation explains that, although we use the formula 2 × (l + w), the letters could be changed for any other letters and also that sometimes the formula may be written without using the × sign: 2(l + w). Finding the Perimeter of Rectangles: Choose your challenge. 1 star is the easiest and 3 star is the hardest. If you choose a challenge and it is too hard, don’t finish it, swap to an easier one. Similarly, if you choose one that is too easy, swap to a harder one. Think about which star challenge I normally give you at school. If you finish this and you want an extension, I have added one but do not spend ages doing this. Only do the extension is you have time. This will really work on your justification and reasoning which is a very important part of your maths curriculum. Solve the Puzzle: calculate the perimeter of a variety of rectangles. The rectangles link to a letter and then they unjumble the letters to make a word. Can you work out the hidden word?

Today we are going to start planning our report. This part of it is about deciding what sections/information I want to include and therefore which questions I need to answer in order to include these facts. We will then be using the internet to find the answers to these questions later on. Watch my video to have an idea about how to set this out and how to decide what section to split it into. Things to think about including in your report: Name, date of birth/death (if applicable, place of birth, significant life events, how they became a leader, what are they most wellknown for, how did they create change, was it positive or negative.

This afternoon you are going to begin your research about your chosen world leader. If you are able to use a computer that is fantastic but ifâ€¯not, you will need to use some nonfiction texts to research. Thinking back to your ideas from this morning where you decided what you want to know, you need to make sure your research is specific to these areas. You need to take notes, not coping out chunks of information that may not be relevant. You need to look through a variety of sources. Think back to our esafety experience where we learned about how results are gathered on an internet search and that the first result may not be the most relevant.â€¯It is important to remember that anyone can put anything they want on the internet so the information you find needs to be looked at for its reliability.â€¯It is also useful to look at a variety of articles as they can give you additional informationâ€¯and you can make sure that your research is in fact accurate.â€¯You can use notes to record your findings.â€¯Remember your presentation skills during this, even with research and note taking presentation and accuracy is important.â€¯ You can record your research in any way you would like. I have given you a picture of mine but you could use bullet points, bubble diagrams, spider diagrams, mind maps etc.â€¯
