Maths – Multiplication

Lesson 10 – Multiplication

LO: To exchange when using multiplication arrays.

SC1. I can create an array.

SC2. I can consider how to exchange between columns.

SC3. I can solve number problems.

Yesterday, we looked at problems where we needed to exchange from the 1s to the 10s column. Today, we are going to consider how to solve larger number problems, which will mean we need to exchange from the 10s to the 100s.

 

 

Today, I would like you to use your multiplication arrays to solve:

  1. 3x63=
  2. 2x92=
  3. 8x21=
  4. 3x53=
  5. 4x42=

Remember that presentation is very important. You must use a ruler to draw the multiplication grid for your arrays. Don’t forget to leave space for your hundreds column. You must carefully count the number of counters in your grid, circling the counters which you want to exchange. A good idea is to always double check and you can even make a small mark on each one to show you have double checked. Give yourself plenty of room and don’t to solve too many problems on one page.

LO: To generate ideas of people receiving kindness letters

SC1) I can create a list of people who would benefit from receiving a letter

SC2) I can think of ideas to include in each letter

SC3) I can present my work neatly

SC4) I can choose and justify my best idea

 

For this week’s challenge, we are focusing on kindness – filling other people’s buckets in order to make them feel good, and in doing so, making yourself feel good.

 

Today we are going to start thinking about who we might send our informal letters to. We want you to make a list of people you could send you letter to, why you would write to them and some of the things you might include. The idea of this letter is to make someone else happy and to make them smile. Will you include a photo? A picture? A story you have written?

 

Again this should be presented in reflective journal style with pictures colour and writing. You can present this in any way you wish whether it be a mindmap or bullet points. We would like you to come up with at least 3 or 4 ideas of people to write to. After you have thought of these ideas, we would like you to choose your favourite and justify why you have chosen this person to write to.

At times like these, there is a lot of time to think and reflect on our lives. With everything going on, it is easy to focus on the not so good things happening. Today I would like you to take some time to think and reflect on the things you are grateful for.

 

On a page in your journals, we would like you to draw a picture of yourself. In the rest of the space, think of things you are grateful and thankful for. We don’t just want you to write single words, we would also like you to draw pictures, use photos etc. Things you may include could be family, friends or the environment, the beautiful weather etc. Look at the bottom of the page for my example of what I am grateful for.
