Winter is looming...
During this experience, the children have been learning how to weave. We have learnt the techniques of tabby weaving, knotting and looping. The children have been using a variety of colours to represent an image/mood to create part of their blanket.
Alongside, they have been learning about expanded noun phrases and subordinate conjunctions. The children have re-written the story of The Princess' Blanket to co-inside their blanket making.
Hook:
For our hook, we had a zoom call with the residents at Lavender Fields and the children asked them lots of questions about their favourite colours, memories and time of the year. They also asked questions about what they would like their blanket to feel or look like. The children have used this information to choose how they are going to design their blanket in the most purposeful way.
Outcome:
The children will be creating a blanket for the residents at Lavender Field's, for them to enjoy as winter approaches. They have all amide a section of the blanket, which will then be combined to make one blanket representing different sections.
Please see some of the weaving that the children have been doing so far. There are some examples below of tabby weaving, knotting and looping.
The final product!
The children have all created a patch of blanket, which has been woven together. The children will be taking it to the care home this week, to keep the residents warm over the winter.
