Year 1- Hedgehogs
Welcome to the Hedgehogs class page!
Here you will find everything you need to know about Year 1.
You can find information about what we are learning this year and have a look at some previous learning over the past few years.
I am Miss Trimmer, the class teacher, and I will be working alongside Mrs Kearton, our wonderful teaching assistant. We are looking forward to a fantastic term filled with exciting learning opportunities and experiences.
Homework
Homework will be set on teams every Friday and is due the following Wednesday. Please ensure that your child completes their homework on time. The children can either bring a paper copy into school, or it can be uploaded on teams. If you cannot access teams or do not have access to a printer, please inform us and we can provide a paper copy.
Reading
It is expected that all children read every day for a minimum of 10 minutes. This reading should be recorded in their reading record, and the adult who reads with them should sign it. Daily reading is vital to help your child develop their phonics knowledge, reading speed, and fluency. Please support us by making this a regular part of your routine.
PE and Forest School
- PE lessons will take place on Friday. Children should come to school wearing the correct PE uniform on this day.
- Forest School is on Wednesday. Children should come to school in their regular uniform and bring their Forest School clothing with them. This should be placed in the black box outside the classroom when they arrive.
Labelling Clothes
To prevent any misplaced items, we kindly ask that all school jumpers and any other personal belongings are labelled with your child’s name.
No Nuts
As we are a nut free school, please ensure all food/products provided contain no traces of nuts. This is very important as we do have children in year 1 with severe nut allergies.
If you need to, please contact Miss Trimmer at: trimmer@inspiream.org.uk
This term, we will be focusing on several key areas in our curriculum:
Term 1
Head, shoulders, knees and toes.
In this science-based experience we will be learning all about the human body and the way that it functions. For our hook we will be taking part in a fitness class which will be run by a qualified fitness instructor. For our outcome, we will deliver our own fitness class to the children in Year R.
Launch page available at the bottom of this page.
Sensational Seal
In this geography-based experience we will be learning about the geographical features of our local area. We will be writing a non-chronological report detailing all there is to do in our local area of Seal!
Maths
In maths this term we will be focussing on:
- place value within 10
- addition and subtraction
- an introduction to geometry.
PE - This term our PE focus is gymnastics. We will be basing our learning on tuck, jump and roll in order to perform movements using the springboard.
RE - In RE we are focusing on 'Christianity'. Our big question is 'What do Christians believe God is like?'.
Wellbeing - This term's wellbeing focus is focused on understanding feelings. Focusing on the alibility to describe a wider range of feelings and what children can do if they feel them.
How can you support at home?
Please talk to your child about their learning. Key knowledge that the children need to know is detailed on the launch pages below.
